The Little Things

It's been a different summer. Outside of work hours, it's horses and barn time all day, reminiscent of teenage me. I am so happy having the horses back at home and living a long term dream. I can happily putter away around the barn all day but it definitely feels weird to not be all in on the riding goals front and it leaves me a little lost for a blog purpose.

Look tho! Progress of a different sort. He used to be so anxious about the trailer and the other day he followed me in all by himself and ate his treats calmly and happily. Yesterday I hosed off his feet, a big deal for him. We might get a first bath complete in a non stressful way before the end of summer, but who knows. I have some thoughts re: setting this guy up for success that probably need their own post.

When I bought the boys, it was perfect timing to semi retire and lease B. That of course opened the door to focus on Sophie. If S still didn't win me over as a long term partner, then I'd sell when then boys were riding age . On paper, that sounds like such a logical plan!

She says it's been a while since she's seen her saddle :)

She is feeling good in general lol

The reality of course is that I'm not an entirely logical person. I'm going a little stir crazy because I want to be out doing all the things. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy having Sophie around and appreciate having a horse to ride. I'm SUPER excited for the cob boys. But also many days my brain wants me to just fast forward, take a few risks, and find a horse that suits me and what I want to do now, in this moment in time. YOLO, get out there and do the things. And some days I so want to charge down that road.

Olympic viewing contributing to FOMO, but also made more interesting with kittens

But, for a multitude of reasons, sticking with Plan A makes sense. Two horses plus a leased out or retired Bridget at home is my long term happy place. Sophie is here as long as she wants to be, but I won't be adding anyone new if she leaves. It's what I committed to when I decided to buy one weanling cob, then of course I really needed to double down on the plan to bring home 2!

As soon as I go outside and visit these two, I'm 100% happy with my decisions all over again. I just love them and it was such a good idea to have them both growing up together.

And of course they really needed a supervisor :)

  1. It’s lovely to walk out your door and see your horses. At least in the summer weather. 😁

  2. I relate to your situation in many ways. I appreciate my own backyard horse set up and enjoy what I am able to do with my horses. At the same time, I wish I could get out there and do more. It's a continual balancing of perspective and an exercise in patience, right? You have a lot to look forward to with your current crew, and I agree that bringing the two boys home together is a fantastic plan. Ditto for the kittens and what a cute kitten and dressage photo, by the way!
