Hate To Admit It...

But I kind of like my job! They've offered to let me have Wednesday afternoons off for the rest of the summer so I can still ride during the barns summer lesson times. I didn't want to ask since they've been so great already, but they offered and I won't say no :) I can work extra hours other days if I want to make up time, which is also very much appreciated by me! I'm so happy to still have the opportunity to learn from all the wonderful lesson horses at the barn.
Is your workplace more traditional 9-5, or do they let you fit in horse time?
I know the trend these days is for companies to be much more flexible about work hours and location in the past, but this is the first place I've worked that actively encourages it and makes it super easy - I just block the time off on my outlook calendar and it's "official".

  1. I work 8-4 and my job is not very flexible with the hours. Probably because we have to have a lot of different people from different jobs to meet at the same time.
    Lucky you!

  2. That's wonderful! :) I do not have flexible hours at all, but I did at a previous job and it was sure handy. I have to use vacation time to book my farrier appts (which is a pain).

    1. My last job was like that- I hated having to use a vacation day for a vet/farrier appt. Particularly when the farrier would cancel at the last minute!

  4. That's great and so important! Mine became flexible when my boss argued for me to become exempt in January. In addition to being able to come and go as I please, he also will sometimes tell me to "Go ride your horse or something." I appreciate it a lot, especially as I consider moving up the career ladder - the next place needs to be just as flexible.

  5. That is fantastic!! I do not technically have a flexible work schedule (8-5) but I work quite a bit of overtime and am a salaried employee plus my boss is AWESOME so she approved me coming in late once or twice a week so I can ride early and beat the heat. It really does make life easier, doesn't it?

    1. It's so much easier. I really appreciate the feeling that they trust me enough to manage my time and appointments effectively - it sounds like such a simple thing, but so many jobs are really strict about it. I've always thought if they don't think I'm capable of basic things like working 40 hours a week and showing up for meetings without supervision I don't think they should have hired me in the first place!
